  • Why you want to pre-order Best Women's Erotica of the Year

Unlike years past, Best Women's Erotica didn't come out this month; instead it'll be out in a few weeks. Also unlike years past, it's increasingly hard to walk into a bookstore these days and pick it up. (RIP, Borders. Your erotica section was so much better than anything Barnes and Noble has.) But those aren't the only reasons you should be thinking around pre-ordering this book.

Editor Rachel Kramer Bussel lays it all out on her blog but I'll summarize here. One simple, practical reason: she's giving away $25 Amazon gift cards to 5 people who pre-order BWE on Amazon. Just forward your receipt to bweoftheyear@gmail.com by 11 January and you're entered to win.

But the other reason is the more interesting one, and it speaks to the heart of publishing today. Pre-orders tell retailers a book will do well, prodding them to order more copies and boosting the chance of other readers encountering the book; this of course sparks sales, sparking publishers to invest in similar books. It's just all around good business for publishers, readers, writers and editors. And in today's somewhat desperate publishing climate with its thin proft margins, even a slim uptick in sales can matter more than you'd imagine.

I'd suggest reading her entire post for more details on pre-orders and why they're relevant, but here's what you need to know right now: where you can pre-order the book. Please note these links aren't just for retail giants but also include your local indie bookstore.
