  • My story "Small Town Immortals" is in LampLight

If you grew up in a small town, especially in a rural area, you know the desolation certain nights can bring - streetlights swaying in the wind on empty streets, abandoned storefronts, the absolute silence after midnight. You also might know how such towns can feel like a trap, and it's that feeling that motivated me to write "Small Town Immortals" - now in the latest issue of LampLight.

It's very much an autumn story, involving a forbidden relationship between two ex-high school classmates who don't talk much about the fact that her father killed his father in a long ago barfight. But when the town legend about a pond that brings back the dead turns out to be true, it becomes an opportunity to settle the family feud - and decide whether to escape the town or succumb to inertia.
